Shockwave Therapy is a noninvasive, nonsurgical, drug-free procedure for the treatment of chronic pain.
It’s a non-invasive therapy that uses sound waves of low intensity yet high frequency to cause mechanical deformation in scar tissue and vascular plaques. It is sometimes referred to as: Low Intensity Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy.
It’s a safe, non-invasive procedure that’s been used throughout Europe for the past 15 years. There are generally no known side effects.
Up to 80% of patients report significant improvement in their symptoms after just 3 treatment sessions, with many reporting pain relief straight after their first treatment.
The therapist will apply ultrasound gel to the treatment head and apply it to the painful tendon.
3. Increase Intensity
4. Tension Release
During treatment our therapist may switch to a larger treatment head.
The whole treatment will last for approximately 15-30 mins.
Benefits of Shockwave Therapy
Extracorporeal refers to a medical procedure that is performed outside of the body (i.e. non-invasive). So ESWT simply means sound wave therapy that is applied on the outside of the injured area.
You will usually need a course of 3-5 treatments. Treatments will take place 7-10 days apart.
Some insurance companies cover some sessions of Therapy. Contact them directly for more information and to get a pre-authorization code for treatment.
If your insurance company will not cover the costs of your therapy treatment, we offer competitively priced one-off treatments. Or, for more value, we offer packages of 3 and 5 treatments. For full details please call our office on 954-986-4559.
You will be able to get up, leave the clinic and return to your normal activities immediately following the session. If you are experiencing an increase in pain, take some over-the-counter painkillers, like paracetamol, but not anti-inflammatories.
Refrain from high-intensity or aggravating activities for the first 48 hours. Your physiotherapist will advise you on when is best to resume your home exercise program.
