"The car barely has a scratch, so I'm probably fine." I've heard some version of that sentence from accident patients for more than two decades, and it's one of the most common misunderstandings I try to clear up. Bumpers are built to absorb a hit without crumpling. Your neck and back don't get that protection. A slow rear-end tap in stop-and-go traffic on Colonial Drive can still whip your head forward and back faster than your muscles can react.
That's why our chiropractor and injury center in Orlando was built around finding the injury first. Back To Mind has treated accident and injury patients in Florida since 2002, and in 2023 we brought that same approach to 6342 W Colonial Dr. Since then, more than 1,000 Orlando residents, including over 700 accident patients, have come to us for answers. This page explains what we look for, how on-site imaging helps, and what to expect when you walk in.
Low-Speed Car Crashes: Why Small Accidents Cause Big Pain
Why a gentle bump can still strain your neck and back, in under a minute.

Why on-site MRI and X-ray change your first visit
Most accident patients get bounced around: an ER visit, a referral, a two-week wait for imaging, then a return trip to discuss results. Every delay leaves you guessing about what's actually hurt.
Most chiropractic offices have to send you elsewhere for imaging. In our Orlando office, it's part of the same visit when your examination calls for it. We don't X-ray everyone by default, and we don't order an MRI just to have one. But when your findings point toward a fracture, a disc problem, or ligament damage, we can look right away instead of sending you across town.
Here's a pattern I've seen many times. A patient comes in two days after a crash with neck pain, and their standard X-rays look "normal." Yet their exam shows the neck moves in a way it shouldn't. Ligaments don't show up well on a basic X-ray, so a normal-looking film can miss the real problem. That's exactly the gap the three tools below are designed to close.
Digital X-ray
Shows fractures, joint spacing, and spinal alignment. We review your images with you on screen, so you see what we see and understand why your plan looks the way it does.
AOMSI analysis
Alteration of Motion Segment Integrity. X-rays taken as you bend forward and back are measured by computer to show whether a spinal segment moves more than it should, a sign of ligament damage.
On-site MRI
When symptoms suggest a herniated disc, nerve involvement, or deeper soft tissue injury, MRI shows what X-rays can't, without a separate trip to another facility.

Conditions our Orlando chiropractor treats most often
Car crashes bring most people through our door, but slip and falls, work injuries, and sports injuries often damage the same tissues. Knowing how each one happens helps explain why your symptoms showed up the way they did.
Whiplash and neck sprain
The head moves faster than the neck muscles can brace, stretching muscles and ligaments. Stiffness, headaches, and trouble turning your head often build over 24 to 72 hours rather than right away.
Spinal ligament injury
Ligaments hold each vertebra in place. When they're overstretched, the spine can feel unstable, tired, or achy with sitting and driving. This is where AOMSI analysis earns its place.
Herniated and bulging discs
Impact can push disc material toward nearby nerves. Pain that travels into an arm or leg, tingling, or numbness is a reason for a prompt exam and, when warranted, an MRI.
Low back pain and sciatica
Seat belts, twisting at impact, or a fall onto the hip can strain the lower back and irritate the sciatic nerve. Many patients notice it first when getting out of bed or a car.
Shoulder and extremity injuries
Bracing against the steering wheel or catching yourself during a fall sends force through the wrists, elbows, and shoulders. These injuries are easy to overlook when the neck hurts more.
Everyday neck and back pain
Not every patient was in a crash. Our Orlando chiropractor also treats neck pain, low back pain, headaches, and stiffness from long commutes, desk work, or lifting, using the same exam-first approach.
Slip and fall, work, and sports injuries
The exam process is the same; the insurance and documentation pathway changes. Our team helps sort out which coverage applies before care begins.

The 14-day window every Orlando driver should know
Florida did not repeal its no-fault law in 2026. Personal Injury Protection is still required on most registered vehicles, and its deadline is still the one I see patients miss most.
Under Florida's PIP law, you generally must receive initial medical care within 14 days of a motor vehicle crash to use your PIP medical benefits. Those benefits come from your own auto policy, no matter who caused the accident. The trouble is that many injuries don't feel serious in the first few days, so people wait, and the window quietly closes.
The amount PIP pays can also depend on whether a qualified provider documents an emergency medical condition. That's one more reason a careful, well-documented first exam matters. We verify your benefits before treatment and explain your coverage in plain language on our Florida PIP doctor page. We never guarantee coverage, but we make sure you understand it.
Symptoms often appear
Inflammation and muscle guarding build gradually. Waking up stiff two days later is common, not imaginary.
Get evaluated
An exam within this window protects your health and generally keeps your PIP medical benefits available.
Options narrow
PIP medical benefits may be denied. Other coverage may still apply, so it's still worth calling us.

Meet your Orlando chiropractor, and the standard behind her care
Your care in Orlando is led by Dr. Maria Rivera, following the examination and documentation standards Dr. Gady Abramson has built across Back To Mind since 2002.

Dr. Maria Elena Rivera Negron, DC
Dr. Rivera earned her Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College after a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. That science background shows in how she approaches accident patients: carefully, with the imaging and exam findings driving each decision.
She's certified in the Webster Technique for pregnancy-related care and treats patients in English and Spanish. Her patients most often mention how clearly she explains what's going on, which you'll notice in the reviews on this page.

Dr. Gady Abramson, DC, PA
Dr. Abramson graduated from Life University in 1997 and founded Back To Mind in 2002, growing it to nine Florida clinics and more than 36,000 patients. His focus has always been auto accident injuries, spine care, and rehabilitation.
"Every patient deserves individualized care. My goal is to help each person recover as safely and efficiently as possible by providing treatment based on their specific injuries, not a standardized protocol."

What happens during your first exam
When I trained our doctors, I asked them to start every accident visit with questions, not treatment. The direction of impact tells us where to look. A rear-end collision loads the neck differently than a T-bone at an intersection, and a fall onto an outstretched hand sends force all the way up to the shoulder.
From there, Dr. Rivera performs orthopedic and neurological testing, measures your range of motion, checks muscle strength, and examines the injured areas by hand. If the findings suggest a fracture, disc injury, or ligament damage, imaging happens here in the office. Every result goes into your record the same day.
One thing I tell every new patient: day one is about understanding the injury, not about adjusting you. Treating the wrong tissue wastes your time and your benefits. A careful first visit is what makes the rest of your recovery make sense.
"Dr. María Rivera is an exceptional professional. She clearly knows what she's doing, inspires confidence in every therapy."

Chiropractic care in Orlando, built from your findings
Once we know what's injured, your plan is based on that, not on a standard package. Two patients from the same crash can need very different care. One may have a strained neck muscle that responds quickly. The other may have ligament damage that needs a slower, more protective approach.
So what does a chiropractor actually do for an injury? After a crash or fall, injured joints in the spine often stop moving normally, and the muscles around them tighten to protect the area. That guarding is helpful at first, but over time it can lead to stiffness, weakness, and pain that lingers. Chiropractic adjustments and manual therapy aim to restore normal joint motion so the surrounding tissues can heal and move the way they should. When imaging shows ligament damage or a disc injury, adjustments are modified or gentler techniques are used instead.
Depending on your exam, your plan may include chiropractic adjustments and manual therapy to restore joint motion, Class IV laser therapy to support soft tissue recovery, and shockwave therapy for select conditions where your evaluation supports it. We add guided exercises so you're rebuilding strength between visits, not just waiting for the next one.
I've noticed that patients recover with more confidence when they understand the reason for each step, so every recommendation comes with an explanation. If something isn't producing the response we expect, we change the plan. And if your findings point toward a specialist, such as an orthopedic surgeon, neurologist, or pain management physician, we'll tell you and make the referral.
Schedule your exam
Class IV Laser
An adjunct used in some plans to support tissue healing and ease pain.
Shockwave Therapy
Acoustic waves applied to select injuries when your evaluation supports it.
Hands-On Chiropractic Care
Adjustments and manual therapy chosen for the tissue that's actually injured.
Records that tell the true story of your injury
After an accident, your medical records become the official account of what happened to your body. Adjusters read them. Attorneys rely on them. Vague notes, missing imaging, or long gaps between visits can make a real injury look minor on paper.
That's why documentation is part of your care here. Your file includes your exam findings, imaging and AOMSI results, diagnoses, treatment notes, and progress reassessments. More than 100 Florida personal injury attorneys work with Back To Mind, and when you have one, we coordinate directly with their office, including Letters of Protection where accepted.
To be clear, we're a medical clinic, not a law firm, and we don't give legal advice. Our job is making sure the clinical record accurately reflects your injury, which protects you however your claim unfolds.

Questions patients ask our Orlando chiropractor
What recovery usually looks like
I'd rather give you accurate expectations than impressive ones. Ligaments and other soft tissues heal on their own biological timeline, and that timeline varies from person to person. Most patients have a few good days, then a setback, then another stretch of progress. That's normal, and it doesn't mean treatment has stopped working.
What you can count on from us is structure: a clear diagnosis, a plan with defined goals, regular reassessments, and a straight answer when something needs to change. No ethical provider can promise a specific outcome. What more than two decades of accident care has taught me is that early evaluation, accurate imaging, and consistent follow-through give your body its best chance to heal.
